Celebrity Judges

Lil' Bub

BUB is a special, one of a kind critter. Discovered as the runt of a healthy feral litter in Indiana, she was taken in as a rescue when it was clear that she required special care. Since then, BUB overcame great challenges to become a published author, talk show host, movie star, and help raise well over $300,000 for animals in need.

Jonathan Krisel

Funny man Jonathan Krisel writes, produces, directs, and even acts in all things hilarious. You might have seen his face or his work on Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, Check It Out! With Dr. Steve Brule, Portlandia, or SNL Digital Shorts. He also co-created Baskets with Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K., currently airing on FX.

The Doubleclicks

The Doubleclicks, Angela M Webber and Aubrey Turner, are a pop-folk sister duo from Portland, Oregon. Their cello-and-ukulele-infused music is uplifting, nerdy, personal, and honest, ranging from a party anthem to hanging out with cats to an earnest look at body image, through the gaze of a Velociraptor.

Robert DeLong

Raised in the suburbs of Seattle, headed south to Los Angeles with a toolbox of Wii-motes, keyboards, and drums to develop a live rock show that CMJ Magazine claims worthy of "an 8-bit warrior, seamlessly creating danceable electro beats with his Wii Remote and Sega Genesis controller on par with the Chemical Brothers." DeLong began performing his genre-bending songs in 2010, where he uses MIDI interfaces, a full drum set, drum pads, keyboards, laptops and game controllers, looping his music to fuse electronic dance beats with rock 'n' roll melodies.

Mike Scott

Mike was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2012 NBA Draft. He concluded his rookie campaign averaging 4.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 9.4 minutes in 40 games. During the 2013-2014 season, Scott led the Hawks in scoring nine times, rebounding twice, and assists once. He was a team leader in games played, while ranking fourth in FGM and sixth in points per game. Most recently, Mike signed a deal with the Washington Wizards, where he will play an integral role in their hunt to the Eastern Conference finals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Design-a-Sock is your chance to tell us what you want on our socks, and maybe win the opportunity to see it produced. It also happens to be one of our favorite times of year! We get to see thousands of amazing designs and interact with all of you in a way we wouldn’t otherwise. That said, we do sometimes need to sleep and eat, so we created this FAQ to answer some of your questions during this busy time. If you don’t find your question here, please leave a comment and we’ll add it!

Who is eligible to enter?

Any person, anywhere in the world can enter! If you are under 13, a parent or legal guardian must submit your entry. This contest is international and open to all ages!

Where do I enter my design?

You can both download your entry form and submit your finished design here: contest.sockittome.com. Or, you can mail or hand deliver entries to: 9592 SE Main St., Milwaukie, OR 97222

When are entries due?

We are accepting entries 9/5/17 – 9/30/17

How many can I submit?

5 designs per person.

How many colors are allowed per design?

We prefer 6 colors per design, because if a sock with more than 6 colors makes it through the voting process to win, we’ll need to adjust the design for production. All judges will use this preference during the contest because our socks cannot be created with more than 6 colors. Black and white are counted as colors.

What are the prizes?

1st Place: Cash prize of $2,000, and 15 pairs of awesome Sock It to Me socks from our current line, and your design will be manufactured on real socks.

2nd Place: Cash prize of $500 and 10 pairs of socks.

3rd Place: Cash prize of $250 and 5 pairs of socks.

When will the winners be chosen?

Winners will be announced 10/16/17.

How does the voting work?

Sock It to Me judges, including our celebrity judges and our in-house team of experts, will select the top 30 designs from all eligible entries. We will post these chosen 30 on our site http://contest.sockittome.com for our fans to vote from 10/9/17 – 10/13/17 on the top 10 designs. Sock It to Me judges will select the final 3 winners from the top 10. Winners will be announced on our site.

All judging will be based on the following guidelines:

  1. Simplicity of design
  2. Use of a maximum of six colors
  3. Use of colors that are flat and solids, NO shading, blending or half tones
  4. Use of pattern
  5. Use of imagery, themes, patterns, or designs that are different from our current line
  6. Originality
Can I offer my fans prints/goods/services in trade for votes?

No. If we become aware of a finalist trading goods or services for votes in this contest, they will be disqualified. Promoting your design and asking for votes are both allowed. Details can be found here: http://contest.sockittome.com/#faq_rules.

What if my design isn’t chosen as a winner, but you want to produce it?

Any socks produced, winning or otherwise, are created with the artist’s permission and are paid for. If we like a design that doesn’t win, we’ll contact you to see if you are interested before we move forward with payment and production.

If I submit an entry, do you own the rights to the design?

No. Contest entries will not be sent back to you, but we don’t own the rights to submitted contest entry designs: you do. Once winners are chosen (or we decide we want to produce another entry), we contact each artist to give them a contract and payment before moving forward.

Where will the winning designs be produced?

They will be produced at the same manufacturers we use to create all our socks. They are located in South Korea, where our founder is from and first discovered fun, vibrant knee socks. We have visited the factories multiple times to ensure fair practices, and we have a close relationship with them. You can read (and see) more about one of the trips here: http://blog.sockittome.com/jays-asia-trip/

Why do you hold this contest?

For fun! Our founder, Carrie, created this contest 9 years ago in the fashion of the restaurant coloring contests we all did when we were kids waiting for our food to arrive. We have an amazing, full-time, professional apparel design team who come up with creative and unique sock designs ALL THE TIME (seriously, they are great). This contest is an opportunity for our fans to participate in the process and an opportunity for us to see, directly from our fans, what they think would be cool on a sock.

If my design wins, will I get a pair of my socks?

Yes. Once they are produced, we will send you a pair of your designed sock. Also, we will give you a gift certificate for the prize socks, which you can use to get whatever socks you want! It takes a while for socks to get produced, so if you want to spend your gift certificate on your socks, you’ll need to wait.

Do you have suggestions for designs?

Something that we don’t already have (take a look at our current line to see what is already available). Also avoid complex details or gradients as these are difficult to translate onto a sock. You can design any style you want (crew, knee high, etc.), though that might get changed during production.

Can more than one of my designs be chosen as a finalist?

Yes. You can submit up to 5 designs and the finalists are chosen based on merit, so it’s possible that one artist could end up with 2 designs in the voting period. This isn’t something that has happened frequently in the past, but you never know!

Can I take a tour when I drop off my design?

Unfortunately, we aren’t currently set up to offer tours. Our fun sock office will have to remain a mystery! You can take a look behind the scenes here: http://blog.sockittome.com/category/behind-the-scenes/.

What are the official rules for this contest?

Good question! You can find them all here: Official Rules

Between October 9, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. PT and October 13, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, Sock It to Me fans, applying the same six judging criteria, will then help determine by vote the top ten (10) finalists from among the thirty semi-finalists.
